1. 1a/ˌnjuː ˈeɪdʒ/alternative spiritual (beliefs, healing)

Describing beliefs, health treatments, and ways of living that sit outside traditional Western religion and medicine, often borrowing ideas from Asian religions and using things like meditation, crystals, and healing energy.

New Age、new age、new-age

Example

The shop by the station sells New Age books about crystals and meditation.

New Age is used in front of a noun to sort it into this group: a New Age shop, a New Age class, a New Age magazine. It covers a wide mix — meditation, astrology, crystals, herbal healing, ideas about energy and nature. Most of the mix grew popular in the West in the late twentieth century. The words usually take capital letters, though you will also see new age and new-age. Using the word is mostly just labelling; on its own it does not say the speaker approves or disapproves.
