One picture holds the whole word: the band of the back that sits low, between the last rib and the hip. On a person that is the part that after carrying boxes all day. On a four-legged animal it is the same band, running along either side of the backbone. Every other use is that one strip of the body, seen from a different place — from the kitchen, or from an old book.

From the word’s history

Wiktionary traces loin through Middle English loyne and Old French loigne to Latin lumbus, 'loin', with an older root meaning kidney or waist. The word has stayed on the same piece of the body ever since.

Wiktionary via the supplied evidence packet (kaikki:3f6f69a190036ae4:563162231:22102): 'From Middle English loyne, from Old French loigne, from Vulgar Latin *lumbea, from Latin lumbus.'
