You can picture someone who keeps asking, one question after another, always pushing a little further in. The word itself does not say whether that is charming or uncomfortable. What decides it is where the questions are pointed: at how the world works, or at things you would rather keep to yourself.
From Old French inquisitif, from Late Latin inquisitivus, from Latin inquirere, to search into or ask about — the same root as English inquire. The picture of asking one's way inward is already in the root.
來自古法文 inquisitif,再往前是後期拉丁文 inquisitivus,源頭是拉丁文 inquirere,意思是「往裡面找、追問」,跟英文的 inquire 同一個根。「一直往裡面問」這個畫面,在字根裡就有了。

同樣一直問,只是問題轉向了人的私事。所以不是另一個字,是同一個動作走過了頭。這也是為什麼英文可以用同一個字客氣地提醒對方:說 I did not want to seem inquisitive,等於承認自己差點問太多。
