From Latin hilaris 'cheerful, merry' (via Greek hilaros). It entered English around 1815 meaning simply 'cheerful', and by the 1830s had shifted to 'boisterously funny' — the modern core keeps that jump from a calm good mood to laughter that overflows.

源自拉丁文 hilaris「愉快、開朗」（再往前是希臘文 hilaros）。剛進英文時只是「心情好」，到十九世紀中葉才滑向「笑到失控」——現在的核心就保留了那一跳：從平靜的好心情，變成擋不住、滿出來的大笑。
