Comical means funny in a slightly odd or unexpected way — not a carefully written joke, more “this looks so strange I have to laugh.” A comical hat, a comical mistake, a comical little walk. It is close to comic, though actually comic can also mean “about comedy” or “a picture-story magazine,” while comical almost always means “funny to look at or think about.” It can feel a touch old-fashioned next to funny, but people still reach for it when they want that extra sense of oddly funny, not just “this made me laugh.” It is usually kind, not cruel; if the laugh is mean, funny or ridiculous may fit better.
