From Old French froignier "to wrinkle the brow, scowl", related to frogne "a sullen face" — the word names the wrinkling itself.
動詞來自古法語 froignier「把眉頭鼻子皺起來」,名詞則來自中古英語 frown「一副兇兇的樣子、天色沉下來」。兩條線都指向同一個具體動作——皺,所以這個字從頭到尾講的都是臉上那個皺起來的樣子,不是背後的情緒。
