When you pout, you push your bottom lip out, and often the top lip follows a little, so the mouth looks round and pushed forward. Children do this when they are annoyed, left out, or did not get what they wanted — they may not shout; the face does the talking. Grown-ups pout too, though actually we often do it on purpose, as a small, wordless “I’m not pleased,” sometimes half-playful, sometimes not. There is another use of the same mouth shape: some people pout to look pretty or sexy, especially in photos. Unhappy pout and photo pout can look alike; the feeling is not the same.
