Fratricide is the crime of killing your own or sister. It is a heavy, formal word. You meet it in law, in the news, and in history books, not in ordinary talk about a fight. People save it for murder. The old Latin piece for '' sits inside it, so the word first pointed at killing a ; though actually, English now uses it for a sister too. Armies sometimes stretch it: they call it fratricide when a soldier kills someone on the same side by mistake (what other people call 'friendly fire'). That use keeps the idea of 'killing your own', but it is not the family crime the word names first.
