Matricide is the crime of killing your own mother. It is a heavy, formal, legal word. You meet it in court news, in history, or in old stories — not across the dinner table. Everyday English would just say he killed his mother. Matricide names the crime itself; it can also name the person who did it, though that second use is less common. The word is cold on purpose. It does not tell you why it happened. It only names the act. This is not a word you need for daily chat. You need it to read a crime story or a news report without getting lost.
