In boxing, a featherweight is a fighter in one weight class: they weigh less than 57.15 . They are heavier than a and lighter than a lightweight. The name comes from the idea that these boxers are light, like a feather. You will hear it from sports reporters and fans; it is a technical sports word, not the ordinary way to say "a person who weighs very little." People do sometimes stretch it as a joke ("a featherweight excuse" = a weak excuse), but that is not the boxing class.
