Picture something pushing outward from the inside until it takes up more room than before: air filling a balloon, metal rails growing wider in the summer heat, a creeping out across the floor. Nothing new is brought in from outside — the same thing simply takes up more space, reaches further, or counts for more. Expansion is that outward push named as an event: the process, or the moment, of getting bigger.
