A useful way to hold this word is to see the 'title' sitting inside it. A title is a name that has been officially given — and an official name can do two things. It can be your claim: hold the title to a piece of land and it is yours by right. Or it can simply be what a thing is called: the title of a book. Entitle means to hand over that official label — either the right, or the name.
