    To close your hand, teeth, or jaw tightly and hold them that way, usually because you feel angry, worried, or very determined.

    clench 講的是身體「用力合起來、不鬆開」：手掌合成拳頭是 clench your fists，上下排牙齒咬死是 clench your teeth，下巴繃緊是 clench your jaw。它幾乎都帶著情緒——生氣、緊張、忍痛，或是下定決心撐住。跟 hold 比，hold 只是拿著，clench 一定有使力夾緊的感覺，而且常常是自己沒察覺就做了。

    To hold something very tightly in your closed hand or between your teeth, so that it cannot move or fall.

    這個 clench 是「把東西夾死在手裡或齒間」：手指整個包住捏緊，或牙齒咬著不放。常見寫法是 clenched in her hand、clenched between his teeth，很多時候用被動或分詞，因為說話的人是在描述看到的樣子。跟 hold 的差別在力道——hold 只是拿著，clench 是用力到手指發白、東西動不了。
