A clansman is a man who belongs to a clan — especially a Scottish Highland clan, with a shared name and tartan. The novelist Walter Scott made the word well known. In careful English it just means a male member of a clan. Though actually, you must watch the capital letter: a Klansman (usually with K) is a member of the Ku Klux Klan, a violent racist group in American history. Newspapers still use that form. The two words sound almost the same, and mixing them up is not a small mistake.
