You can picture any as 'it doesn't matter which one' — you reach into a group and grab without choosing a specific member; any single one will do, even the smallest scrap, even just one. From that 'pick whichever, no fixed choice' image grow all the uses: asking if there's even a little of something, saying every single one qualifies, and (as an adverb) 'even a tiny bit more'.
