A woman who sails a yacht — the same word as yachtsman, only for a woman. Everything true of that word is true here: it suggests someone who really sails, and often someone who does it seriously, , or has made a long voyage. You meet it most in news stories and in sailing clubs, and it carries a note of respect. There is one difference worth knowing. Because sailing was for a long time written about as a men's sport, "yachtswoman" often appears exactly when a writer wants to point out that the sailor is a woman — "the British yachtswoman who sailed around the world alone". That marking can feel dated now, and many writers today would simply say "sailor" for a person of any gender, keeping "yachtswoman" for older texts, club names and titles. It is a real word in good standing; just notice that choosing it puts a small spotlight on the fact that she is a woman, which "sailor" does not.

組成yacht + -s- (joining sound) + -woman. The -woman half goes back to Old English wīfmann, literally "woman-person" — wīf then meant a woman, and mann meant a human being of any sex.
