    Used about a job that pays a lot of money, or about a person who is paid a lot of money for the work they do.

    well-paid 有兩個方向，但講的是同一件事：形容「工作」時，是這份工作給的錢多（a well-paid job = 高薪的工作）；形容「人」時，是這個人拿的錢多（well-paid workers = 拿高薪的員工）。可以想成 well（好好地）+ paid（被付錢），就像 well-known（很多人知道）、well-trained（受過好訓練）一樣，都是「well + 被怎麼樣」長出來的形容詞。放在名詞前面時寫成 well-paid（有連字號），放在 be 後面時通常寫成 well paid（分開），意思完全一樣。

Two words stuck together, each still doing its own job: paid (you receive money for work) plus well (to a high standard, in good measure). So the picture can be of a pay envelope that comes out thick — the money side of the work is generous. The same word covers both ends of the arrangement: a well-paid job (the position hands out a lot) and a well-paid engineer (the person takes a lot home).

可以想成這個字是兩塊拼起來的：paid 是「有拿到錢」，well 是「程度好、給得夠」。合起來的畫面比較像一份薪水袋鼓鼓的——工作的金錢那一面很優厚。要注意的是同一個字可以指向兩邊：a well-paid job 是「這個職位給得多」，a well-paid engineer 則是「這個人領得多」，中文常分成「高薪的職缺」跟「待遇好的人」，英文用同一個詞。

    Adequately paid; receiving sufficient to liberal compensation for work.

    • For most purposes the morning peak, with its more expensive travel, is defined as 4.30 to 9.30 a.m., but in the case of Oyster Card single fares, the morning peak begins at 6.30. It is the less well-paid jobs that require people to travel before 6.30 (you still see men with their tool bags on the first Tubes of the day), so the generous impulse behind the working men's tickets has not entirely died out.
