Vehemence is the force behind strong feeling when someone says or does something — the heat in their voice, the sharpness of the words, the sense that they really mean it and will not be moved. It is a noun, and it usually appears in phrases like 'with vehemence', 'the vehemence of his reply', 'surprised by her vehemence'. Two things to notice. First, it is almost always about *disagreeing* or *denying* — you rarely read about the vehemence of someone's love, but often about the vehemence of a denial or a protest. Second, the writer is often commenting on the strength as slightly too much: 'the vehemence of his answer took everyone by surprise' hints that the room went quiet. It is a formal, written word — you would find it in a newspaper or a novel, not usually in conversation, where people say 'how strongly he felt' or 'how angrily she said it'. Uncountable: no plural.
