A urologist is the doctor you see for problems with the urinary system — kidneys, bladder, and the tubes between and out — and, for men, also for the reproductive organs, including the prostate. So a urologist handles kidney stones, bladder infections that keep coming back, trouble peeing, blood in the urine, prostate checks for older men, and vasectomies. It is a countable noun, an ordinary word for the doctor's job title, used both by patients and by hospitals: "I have an appointment with a urologist on Friday." Two neighbours often confuse students: a **nephrologist** treats kidney *disease* with medicine (no surgery), while a urologist is a surgeon for the plumbing; and a **** is the specialist for women's reproductive organs, which is a different department. In Taiwan you would look for 泌尿科 at the hospital counter.
組成urology (泌尿學) + -ist (…師、專家), or read it as uro- (泌尿) + -logist (…學專家). Either way, the pieces are 'the urinary system' + 'the person who specialises in it'.
