Urine is the yellow liquid waste your body makes. Your kidneys clean the blood, the waste and extra water become urine, it collects in the bladder, and it leaves when you go to the toilet. The word is a noun and it is uncountable: some urine, a sample of urine — never "a urine" or "urines". It is the polite, neutral, slightly clinical word, so it is the one you meet in hospitals and on labels: **urine sample**, **urine test**, **blood in the urine**. Casually, people say **pee**, and pee works as both noun and verb, so "a pee" is fine even though "a urine" is not. **Piss** means the same thing but is rude, and be careful — it also gives you with nothing to do with the body, like "piss someone off" (make them angry). One nice detail: the colour tells you something real. Very pale means you have drunk plenty of water; dark yellow usually means you should drink more.

That same very old root is behind udder — the part of a cow that gives milk. Before Latin arrived, English used its own word, hland; it has almost vanished, surviving only as lant.
