組成Two Greek pieces joined: τύραννος (túrannos) 'tyrant, absolute ruler' + σαῦρος (saûros) 'lizard' — so, 'tyrant lizard'. The scientist who named it in 1905 was saying that this animal ruled over everything else alive at the time.
