A tyrannosaurus is a very large meat-eating dinosaur: huge head, teeth like knives, a thick tail, powerful back legs, and tiny front arms. It walked the earth about 68 to 66 million years ago and is probably the most famous dinosaur in the world, the one every child can draw. The full scientific name is Tyrannosaurus rex — 'rex' is Latin for 'king' — and in everyday speech people almost always say 'T. rex' instead of the long form. When you do write the scientific name it takes a capital T and (Tyrannosaurus rex); when you use it as an ordinary English noun, small letters are fine ('a tyrannosaurus'). The plural is usually 'tyrannosauruses'; some people write 'tyrannosauri' to sound Latin, but that is playful rather than correct. There is also the shorter form 'tyrannosaur', which covers the whole family of related dinosaurs, not just this one animal.
組成Two Greek pieces joined: τύραννος (túrannos) 'tyrant, absolute ruler' + σαῦρος (saûros) 'lizard' — so, 'tyrant lizard'. The scientist who named it in 1905 was saying that this animal ruled over everything else alive at the time.
