1. 1

Telesales is selling things by telephone — a worker sits in an office, rings people up one after another, and tries to get them to buy. It names the activity and also the department that does it: 'She works in telesales', 'a telesales team', 'a telesales job'. The word is mainly British; Americans more often say 'telemarketing', though telemarketing is a bit wider and covers any phone marketing, not only closing a sale. Two things to feel about this word. First, it usually means ringing people who did not ask to be rung, so it carries a slightly negative smell — many people picture the call at dinner time. Second, it is a real, common entry-level job, and in a job it is completely neutral: 'Telesales executive wanted, no experience necessary.' The form looks plural because of the -s, but it behaves as a single uncountable idea: 'telesales is hard work', not 'telesales are'.

    電話行銷、電話銷售。台灣一般就講「電話行銷」,接到那種推銷保險、信用卡的電話就是這個;求職欄裡的「電銷專員」也是同一件事。中國大陸多說「電銷」。
