A teapot is the pot you make tea in and pour tea from. It has a lid on top, a handle on one side, and a spout — the little tube the tea comes out of — on the other. You put tea leaves and hot water inside, wait, then pour. That last part matters: a teapot is for making tea for several people and serving it, which is what makes it different from a kettle (a kettle only boils the water) and from a cup (you drink from a cup). Sizes go from big pots on a family table to the small clay pots used in Chinese tea drinking, and all of them are teapots in English. There is also a very common fixed phrase: 'a storm in a teacup' in British English, or 'a tempest in a teapot' in American English — meaning people getting very upset over something small. If you meet the teapot version in an American book, that is what it is.
