Subjection is the state of being under someone else's power and having to obey — or the act of putting someone into that state. It is a heavy, formal word, and it belongs to history books, , law, and serious writing about power: a country held in subjection by an empire, women's subjection under old laws, a people's long subjection to a ruling family. Nobody uses it about small things; you would never say a child is in subjection to their teacher. The usual patterns are 'the subjection of X (to Y)' and 'in subjection to'. There is a second, much drier use that trips people up: 'subjection to' can also mean simply being made to undergo something, with no ruler involved at all — 'subjection to extreme heat', 'subjection to repeated testing'. That comes from the other meaning of the verb 'subject' ('to subject something to heat'). So the same word covers political domination and laboratory procedure, and only the sentence around it tells you which. Compare 'subjugation', which is the stronger, more violent word — conquering by force — while 'subjection' can describe a settled, quiet, long-lasting condition of being ruled.
組成subject + -ion. The '-ion' ending turns an action into a thing you can name. Deeper down, 'subject' comes from Latin 'sub' ('under') + 'iacere' ('to throw'), so the old picture is 'thrown under' — placed beneath someone's power.
