nun · noun · A1
A woman who is a member of a religious group and lives a life of prayer; a nun.
修女
You can picture sister as the female you grew up beside — same parents, same house, bound to you by blood. From that one image of a close female who shares your origin, the word stretches outward: to women bound by a shared faith, a shared cause, or a shared identity, and even to two things 'born of the same group'. The thread running through all of it is 'a female counterpart who shares the same source as you'.

sister company · noun · A1
