From Old English sala 'act of selling', from Old Norse sala.
源自古英文 sala「賣東西」，借自古諾斯語 sala。
You can picture 'sale' as the single moment of handing something over and getting money back for it — the act of selling. Almost every other use is that one event seen from a different angle: counted up over time, made available, marked down in price, or built into a fixed phrase.
