Clearance has a few uses. It can mean official permission to do something, especially something that needs security checks — like "security clearance" to enter a building. It can also mean a sale where a shop lowers prices to get rid of old stock — a "clearance sale." And it can mean the empty space between two things, like the clearance under a bridge for trucks to pass safely underneath.
