To resurrect something, in the sense you will meet in news and everyday talk, is to bring back an old activity, belief, or idea that has not been around for a long time — an old rule, an old band, an old way of teaching. Though actually, the word still carries an older, stronger meaning: to bring a dead person back to life. That is why it can sound dramatic when you use it for a fashion or a TV show. People use that drama on purpose: if they resurrected the old dress code, they did not just restart it; they pulled it out of the past. It is a little colourful for a calm meeting, but writers and critics use it often. You resurrect a thing (the object comes after the verb). If the thing never really died, “bring back” or “use again” is fairer and quieter.
