A proviso is a condition you ask for before you will agree. You say yes — but only if this extra rule is kept. “I’ll come, with the proviso that we leave by ten.” It is a formal, careful word, at home in contracts, law, and deals. In ordinary speech people often say “on the condition that” instead. You will also meet it as a name in history class (the Wilmot Proviso was a proposed American rule with a condition attached), but the living word is just this “yes, if…” extra demand, not the name itself.

組成Borrowed from Latin proviso, “it being provided,” from providere, “to provide.” The old idea is: this is provided / this condition is given, and then the rest can go ahead.
