Optical means 'about light, images, or the way we see,' especially when a machine or a process is doing the work. An optical fibre is a thin glass thread that sends messages as light. An optical illusion is a picture or scene that tricks your eyes, so a straight line looks bent, or a still picture seems to move. An optical drive reads a disc with a laser. So optical is wider than optic: optic is mostly the eye itself; optical is light, images, and the tools we build around them. It is a school-and-science word. In casual talk people often just name the thing — a laser, a lens, a trick picture.
