A naturopath is a person who tries to treat illness with things they call natural — plants, food, rest, water, and changes in the way you live — rather than with the usual drugs and operations of a hospital doctor. In some countries they have a licence and a title; in others almost anyone may use the name, so the word does not by itself tell you how much training the person has. Most hospital doctors often disagree with this kind of care and say there is not enough strong proof for many of the treatments. You will meet the word in health magazines, on clinic signs, and in arguments about medicine. It is a specialist word, not playground English. Though actually, natural here is a claim, not a magic stamp: some plant medicines are strong, and some natural products are not safer just because they grew in the ground.
