From narrow, from Old English nearu 'narrow, confined'.
源自古英文 nearu「狹窄的」，指水道窄處。
Water with land closing in from both sides. The route does not stop, it just gets thin: everything that wants to pass has to squeeze through this one place, where the current runs faster and there is less room to turn.
