grammar: describe another word · verb · C1
In grammar, to give more information about another word, usually by coming right before or after it.
(文法)修飾
Picture a small change made on purpose so a thing fits better — the design stays what it was, but a detail is altered to suit. Modify is that. Grammar borrows the same idea: an adjective sitting next to a noun does not replace it, it adjusts what the noun means.
