    A mag is a magazine: a thin book with pictures and short pieces, sold every week or every month. This is a casual short form. Friends say “Have you seen this mag?” Formal writing usually keeps the full word magazine. You will hear it in speech and see it in easy writing — a fashion mag, a music mag, a film mag. Though actually, the same three letters can mean other things in English, but in ordinary modern talk, if someone says “a mag”, they almost always mean a magazine.
