Judicious means done in a sensible, careful way — you looked, you thought, you did not rush. A judicious choice is a wise one. A judicious use of time or money means you spent it well, not wildly. The word praises the quality of the decision, not a court. It is a little formal and a little old-fashioned in speech; teachers, , and careful writers like it. Though actually, it looks like judicial, and that is a famous trap: judicial is “of judges and courts.” Judicious kept the older idea of “having good judgment” and walked away from the courtroom. You can be judicious about cooking, saving, or speaking; no wig required.
組成From French judicieux, ultimately from Latin iūdicō (“I judge”). Related to judge and judicial, but the meaning here is “showing good judgment,” not “of a court.”
