    In the Hebrew Bible — what Christians call the Old Testament — Judah is one of Jacob’s twelve sons. His mother was Leah. The stories say his tribe grew strong, and later the southern kingdom was called Judah. The English words Jew and Jewish come from that name. Though actually, English readers (and Chinese readers even more) mix Judah up with , the man who Jesus. They are the same old Hebrew name, but they are not the same person, and they do not belong to the same part of the story. This Judah is the son in the older book.
