Inflammation is swelling and pain in part of your body, which is often red and feels hot. The body is sending extra blood and extra immune cells to a place that is hurt or infected. A little inflammation is the body doing its job; a lot, or inflammation that will not calm down, is a problem doctors treat. You will hear it with throat, joints, skin, gums, and the gut. Though actually, people also talk about “chronic inflammation” in a looser health-news way now, but the core picture is still that red, hot, swollen place. It is not the same thing as infection, even though the two often arrive together: infection is the ; inflammation is the body’s reaction.
