Indistinctly means “not clearly.” Someone speaks indistinctly when the words run together; you hear a voice but not the sentence. A shape can show indistinctly in fog; a memory can come back indistinctly. It is simply indistinct in the “how” form. Everyday talk: “not clearly,” “I couldn’t quite hear.” Though actually, this is about a weak or mixed signal — mumble, fog, a dim memory — not about someone being secret on purpose.
