Imperturbability is the noun for staying calm when things go wrong — not jumping, not snapping, not letting worry show on your face. It is stronger than ordinary calm. The person seems hard to shake. People use it as praise, often for a doctor, a leader, or anyone who must keep a clear head while others are losing theirs. It is a formal, rather word. In speech you will hear calm, doesn’t let it get to them, or nothing fazes her much more often. Though actually, it is built as “not--ability”: means to disturb or throw into confusion. So the word is literally the quality of not being thrown.

組成im- (not) + perturbability (the ability to be disturbed). From im- + perturbability. Perturb itself is “to throw into confusion.”
