hunt (search hard) · verb · B1
To look for someone or something very carefully and with a lot of effort.
One way to picture hunt: you are after something that does not want to be found, and you keep going until you get it. Start with an animal being chased; take away the animal and the chase itself remains — searching hard for lost keys, tracking down a suspect, or the whole organised business of fox hunting.
