The supplied source dates the word to 1964 in the US and gives it two strands at once: the nightclub name Whisky a Go Go (itself from French a gogo, meaning in abundance), and simple reduplication of go, from the 1962 slang the go meaning in motion or in fashion, as in on the go. Both strands say the same thing about the word, which is why everything it describes is moving fast.
