Fluoride is a chemical made from the element . In everyday life it is the form people put in , and sometimes in drinking water, because it is believed to help teeth resist decay — to make it harder for holes to start. Dentists here also paint a fluoride varnish on children’s teeth. Though actually, fluoride is not the same as the dangerous yellow gas ; fluoride is the compound, the everyday form. Too much of it can leave marks on teeth, so “more” is not always better.
