The picture is the button on the machine. The thing keeps running forward, only much faster, and the middle goes past in a blur that nobody looks at. That is the whole word. Point it at a recording and you skip the advertisements. Point it at a life and you skip the years: fast-forward ten years asks the listener to let the middle blur past and start watching again at a later moment.
