From Latin facies 'form, appearance, face' + -al 'relating to'; the adjective simply marks 'belonging to the face'.
來自拉丁文 facies「外形、面容」，加上表示「與…有關的」字尾 -al。所以字面就是「臉的」，跟 face、surface（表面）同源——都繞著「朝外顯露的那一面」在轉。
