Eyewear is the group name for things you wear on your eyes: glasses for seeing, sunglasses, and sometimes safety glasses. Ordinary people almost never say it at the breakfast table; they say glasses or sunglasses. Companies, shops, and ads like eyewear because it sounds like a product line — the same kind of shop language as for shoes. You will see it on boxes, websites, and in the names of brands. It is a fairly formal, business word, not a warm everyday one.
