    正式The length of time that something lasts or continues.

    「duration」是比較正式的「持續時間」——一件事從開始到結束一共多久。日常口語常說 how long / length of time；報告、合約、科學課比較愛用 duration。核心畫面可以想成「一條時間的長度」：量的是「撐了多久」，不是「幾點開始」。高頻句型：the duration of…、of two hours' duration、for the duration (of…)。

Picture a line drawn from the moment something starts to the moment it stops — the film, the flight, the meeting, the storm. Duration is the length of that line. It does not say when the thing happened or how good it was; it only measures how long it went on.

可以想成：從一件事開始的那一刻，畫一條線到它結束的那一刻——電影、航程、會議、颱風都可以。duration 量的就是這條線有多長。它不管事情什麼時候發生、好不好，只講「持續了多久」。
