水淹過來(字面)
這一族是核心畫面的字面版本:真的有水,蓋過去的後果是不能呼吸。
die underwater · verb · B2
To die because you have been under water too long and cannot breathe, or to kill a person or an animal in this way.
溺水;淹死
Think of it as water closing over something until it is completely under. The key picture is not just 'wet' but 'covered over, with no gap left' — the surface closes above you and there is nowhere for air, sound, or you to get out. Every other use of drown keeps that same shape: something floods in, covers something else entirely, and what was underneath can no longer be heard, tasted, or coped with.
