From Latin digerere "to carry apart, separate, dissolve" (dis- "apart" + gerere "to carry"), via Old French digestion.
來自拉丁文 digerere，本義是「把東西分開、搬開」（dis- 分開 + gerere 搬運）。所以 digestion 一開始講的就是「把整塊東西拆散、分送出去」這個動作，剛好對上身體把食物拆解、再把養分送到各處的畫面。
