Absorption is the act of something up or taking it in so it becomes part of what took it in. A towel's job is absorption — it takes in water. Your stomach and do absorption with food — they take nutrients from your food into your blood. Scientists also talk about a material's "absorption" of sound or light, meaning it takes the sound or light in instead of bouncing it back. And if you watch or read something with total absorption, you are so interested that you notice nothing else happening around you.
