    「defective」是「本身有缺陷、做得不對，或不能正常運作」的形容詞，同義詞是 faulty。常見畫面是 defective product / goods（瑕疵品、不良品）：東西出廠時就有問題，所以商店常讓你退換。可以想成名詞 defect（缺陷）長出來的形容詞——「帶著那個缺陷」。跟 broken 有一點不同：broken 常是用壞、弄破；defective 常是「做出來就不對」。

One way to see it: the thing came off the line with something wrong in it. It is not worn out from use and not broken by an accident — the fault was already inside when you got it, so it never worked as it should.
